My ongoing project, “Vessels of Remembrance,” includes various pedestal vessels and ink paintings. These pieces, featuring forms like stacked tower-like vessels, bird-shaped vessels, and incense holders, are crafted in black and white, colors that symbolize mourning in both Japan and Korea.
Honoring the deceased is not only a way to cherish memories of the past but also an opportunity to reflect and contemplate the present. Through this project, I explore whether such rituals truly connect us with lost souls or simply ease our grief. In a world marked by violence, I feel a strong drive to create spaces that invite meditation and introspection, where each person can discover their own personal rituals, free from imposed beliefs.
